CHICK RAP - ROUND II

After this post I promise I'll shut up about Chick Rap (for a few days at least)

So Wednesday was the return of Chick Rap on SPILL. We knew we had loads of crackers up our rolled up sleeves so requested a 2 hour episode. It. Was. Amazing. You can listen again anytime here.

Kid Sister - Right Hand Hi
Love love love this track. Kid Sister is teaming up with Kelis for a track called "What You Working With" for Kelis' new record. Search Youtube and there is a 30 second clip. Cannot wait for that comeback.

Ms Dynamite - Bad Gyal (Remix)
Who knew Ms. D. had more than one song? Loving the dancehall-ness of this track.

Beyonce - Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix)
Beyonce is god. No matter what anyone says, and with lyrics like "pat yo' weave ladies" it's needless to say I love this track.


Lil' Kim - The Jump Off
She is a filthy bitch...and we all fucking love it.

To celebrate this week's theme on radio, Chick Rap - Round II, I thought I'd bring you one of my favourite grrrl fronted rap trios. They hail from NYC and have been at it since early 2002.

I first heard about them in my early teeny bopper days, when I used to stalk Le Tigre and crowdsurf at Bloodhound Gang gigs (real story) I found their first album Dying In Stereo in HMV and bought it without even listening to it? Weird. Turns out it was amazing. However after listening to it on my ghetto blaster a thousand times it got scratched and stopped working. Luckily someone in my class shared my NS love and burned me a copy.

Misdemeanor is baaaack

2010 sees the return of old favourite Missy Elliott. Her seventh studio album 'Block Party' has been scheduled for release for an age and this year it finally drops. Featuring colabz with Lil Wayne and The Neptunes it sounds like it should have a few sweet tracks on it.

As I'm not really a fan of Lil Wayne, I personally don't like the track with him but the other track I've heard is 'Put It On Ya' featuring newbie Teyana Taylor. It has been produced by Pharell and is a belter. Ch-ch-check it out below.

M.E.N.

For those of you who don't know - M.E.N. is the newest project of the gender defying JD Samson of Le Tigre fame. Hailing from New York City they started out basically unknown in Europe, however after their latest track 'Make It Reverse' was picked up for the Kitstune Maison Volume 7 CD they are playing their first ever UK dates next week in Brighton then two dates in London. Which I totally want to go to.

Anyway I found a link to a free download for M.E.N's two newest tracks;

Hole in London

So..the human car crash, also known as Courtney Love, has stated that her 1990s grunge band Hole are reforming and shall be preforming this year. The band will be playing their first gig in 11 years on February 17th (one year to the day that I started SPILL) at London's o2 Shepards Bush.

Obviously being a Hole fan I was dying to go but websites gave out the wrong dates of ticket sales and I missed out on getting a ticket, which were only £20! The gig sold out in minutes and now tickets are on eBay for up to £200! Wtf? Hopefully she will announce another date later in the year. If she's still alive.

SPILL - Subcity Radio

SPILL will return this Wednesday on http://www.subcity.org after a break for the festive period. I have been doing my homework over the holidays and we're gonna be bringing you what we think (know) is gonna be huge in 2010. Tune in from 2pm to hear our first show of the new year.
